Munich is a vivacious cosmopolitan, buoyant and charming city located south of Germany and it is the capital of the Bavaria region. Munich is the place of showpiece buildings and stunning works of art. Munich is blessed with magnificent architecture, fashionable shops and stunning gastronomy including the world famous pretzels. Munich is also considered the financial capital of Germany and it is a centre for biotechnology, software and other service industries.

  • BMW Museum: the museum is located close to the Olympiapark and contains a collection of BMW cars and different exhibitions throughout the year.
  • Oktoberfest: running from late September to the first weekend of October the festival offers a lot of different entertainment including horse races and costume presentations and around 5 million people attend Oktoberfest each year. There is also a huge choice of beer to taste and around 7 million litres of beer are drunk every year during the festival.
  • Schloss Nymphenburg: a beautiful palace in the baroque style Schloss Nymphenburg has a collection of paints and beautiful gardens to view. The palace used to be the holiday home of German Kings and present its original furnishing.
Airport Info

Munich Airport was first opened in 1992 and today is the second busiest airport in Germany. The airport is also one of Europe's major aviation hubs handling over 30 million passengers every year. In 2009 Munich airport was nominated the 2nd best airport in Europe and the 5th best in the world.

The airport is situated 28.5 km northwest of Munich.

Facilities in Munich airport include a bank, a post office, ATM's cash points, bureau de change and other amenities including a hairdresser and shops offering a wide range of products. There is a vast food village with several restaurants, cafes and bars. Wi-Fi is also available throughout the airport. Car rental companies include Avis, Budget and Hertz.

To and from the airport

By Taxi
You can take a taxi at the exit of terminal 1 on level E04 and on terminal 2 along the access ramp for taxis to the north of the terminal. For more information you can call +49 81613666

By Bus
The airport bus station is situated out of terminal 2. The buses go to several destinations and information can be found on the bus stand to the north of terminal 2.

By Train
There is a rail link that travels from Munich airport to Ostbahnhof and back. Stops include Neufahrn, Moosach, Laim, Munich Hauptbahnhof (main station), Marienplatz. At Hauptbahnhof and Ostbahnoh passengers can change to mainlines services.

By Car
The airport can be reached by car directly via the A 92 Munich-Deggendorf autobahn.
